Our Fall Festival is next week and classes are getting ready for the fun. Students in the Red Room mixed paint today to decorate their monsters for their class booth. Lots of other spooky activities are in store for the Fall Festival on October 31.

Our In-Service Day on Monday started with deep conversation for our teachers and staff focused on defining who we are as a community. Terms such as welcoming, multi generational, diverse, internationally minded, compassionate, caring and kind were brought up. They also discussed how we can embrace independence and creativity and be responsive to both parent and student needs. The afternoon was spent enjoying some creative time.

GPS participated in today's Great Shake Out drill at 10:17 a.m. Our students, faculty and staff practiced DROP, COVER and HOLD ON. Then they evacuated to an open area on the playground where Mrs. Shibel explained what to do in case of an earthquake. Parents received a text and email alert as a test of our Emergency Communication System. Take time today to check your emergency supplies and be prepared!

Bon Voyage to our wonderful facilities manager, Mr. Luisito, who is retiring today. We thank him for his years of service to GPS and CHA. We wish him all of the best as he returns to his home in the Philippines to be with his family. We will miss you!

Jr. Kindergarten students are learning about our school community. This week they learned who the different members of the GPS community are and what they do. One of our favorite projects each year is seeing the GPS family tree come together in their classroom.

In honor of National Coach's Day on October 6, we want to send a huge thank you to our very own, Coach B. For over 17 years, Coach Boulanger has been our student's biggest cheerleader. From CHA to GPS, Preschool through 8th grade, Coach B has taught students how to throw, run, jump, take turns, persevere, trust in themselves and be a good sport. He believes in the potential of every single student and we are lucky to have him at GPS. Hip hip hooray!

Kindergarten is investigating apples today. Each student brought an apple to class. Then they asked; How big is their apple? How many seeds does it have? How does it taste? They created an apple and labeled the parts. They even made art stamping with an apple. How do you like them apples?
